Lactated Ringers Inj USP also known as Lactated Ringers Solution (LRS) is used for the treatment of dehydration and electrolyte depletion in animals. May be injected intravenously, subcutaneously or intraperitoneally (except horses) using aseptic technique.
Lactated Ringers comes in 2 different bags- the old style is PVC (Poly-vinyl Chloride) and contains a chemical, plastic softener called DEHP. DEHP has been linked to cancer and the FDA requires a written disclosure on products containing DEHP. The new style of fluid bags are DEHP-Free, Hospira's brand name for these bags is VisIV.
Fluids are very heavy, about 2.5 pounds per bag or just over 30 pounds for a case of 12 bags. As of 3/15/11 ThrivingPets will only ship quantities of 4 to 12 bags.
IMPORTANT: During the winter months there is a danger of freezing which could cause the fluid to expand and burst the bags of fluid. Please make sure there is someone home to receive the shipment or that there is a place to leave the package where it will not freeze. We will not replace fluids which have not been handled appropriately.
